iTune for the Weak.
It’s been awhile since I post a song to think about, so this week I have a 2-for-1 speacial! Both are from Charlie Hall’s new album: The Bright Sadness. Hands down, I think this is Charlie’s best album – then again, maybe it’s tied for #1 with On The Road to Beautiful. Either way, you need to get this album – NOW. Seriously, it rocks.
Both of the songs for this week are ones that speak to not only our hearts but our brokenness and healing as well. Read the words – let them sink in – experience GOD’S love and healing presence in new ways.
My Brightness
Well I’ve been hit from every corner
And I’ve been thrown from side to side
And I’m cracked up in the inside
So I come to You for life
Your presence always heals me
So I wanna’ drink it in
You know where we’re going God
And You know where I’ve beenAnd your love is like a rock
When I’m spinning
And your love is like a rock
When I’m spinningYesterday I felt so angry
And today so insecure
And I hate it that I wrestle with the God that I adore
Your presence always heals me
So I wanna drink it in
You know where we’re going God
And You know where I’ve been. And your love is like a rock
When I’m spinning
And your love is like a rock
When I’m spinningAnd I know less about You
But my heart loves You so much more
You’re the bright in sadness
You’re my brightnessI wish this thing could pass from me
But I’m wanting what You want
So bring me high and bring me low
Just hold me in Your loveAnd your love is like a rock
When I’m spinning
And your love is like a rock
When I’m spinning.
Hookers and Robbers
Crack kids, track kids, hookers and robbers
The naked and hungry, mothers and fathers
Abuses, excuses, guns in your hands
And I even welcome the arrogant manI welcome you all the biggest of feasts
A night of no shame, to pause and to breathe
This is a night of love’s renovation
A feast I am sure that could change a whole nationMe, I’m not such an excellent host
I am one who forgives but needs it the most
I found the liar, the killer of hearts
And I ran away with a new way to startI journeyed a road where a bright man appeared
He looked into me, and my eyes filled with tears
My breath fast and short and my heart burning deep
He gave me new eyes and a new way to seeCome as you are, as you are, as you are
Come as you are, as you are, as you areI still defined His great love ways
I felt such a famine when I ran away
I missed the presence, the voice like a song
I was nasty and dirty, I knew I was wrongBut he ran to me like a dream, like a Father

This love is not earthly, this love must be other
He carried me home and threw me a party
A party so loud, like the greatest love storyOh, my dear friends, applaud now please
I’ve invited you here to announce you are free
He takes you chains, busting you out of prison
Just open your heart, let your heart come and listenCome as you are, as you are, as you are
Come as you are, as you are, as you areWho could accept all your pounding and screaming
Your raging, your freaking, cussing, and beating
All while He holds you and always forgiving
This is the story of love and livingWipe off your tears and laugh just a little
Come, break this bread, celebrate the Forgiver
Raise up a glass, a time to remember
Come, break this bread, celebrate the forgiverCome as you are, as you are, as you are
