Romans 8:1-4
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

I agree with that =)
The word religion means different things. For some people it is the way we live the faith, in the church as members of God’s family. So in James 1:27, pure and undefiled religion is a good thing. Apparently, to Bethke “religion” means works righteousness, hypocrisy, and legalism. Of course he’s right about religion the way he defines it.
Exactly, and I think that’s what he means.
I think I know what he’s getting at, but we have to “walk the talk” somehow, and we have to do it as part of the Body of Christ. Maybe it’s about having the right attitude. Paul told the Philippians to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you to both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (2:12b-13) Just say no to empty rituals and thoughtless practices that don’t glorify God!
Amen, Seth. It’s not that we don’t “live out our faith,” it’s that we don’t find salvation in our works.
Exactly. Religious is being so caught up in what we do, than what Christ has done
