A Shout Out to End Slavery

010213154806This past week, my wife and I with two college students attended Passion 2013 – along with 60,000 other people.  It was an amazing time of reconnecting with Jesus, worshipping Jesus, being fed by Jesus, and resting in Jesus.  It was also a time of challenge, to awaken and stand up to Christ’s call of justice for the 27 million people in slavery today.

27 Million.

Last year, Passion 2012 took a huge stand against slavery with their voice, awareness, and wallet.  This year, they stood up again with an even louder shout to bring awareness and finances to end slavery around the world.  With numbers still totaling up, so far college students and adults have raised over $3.17 million to finance 15 organizations in their fight against slavery – especially human trafficking.  Along with this move, there is a short-term movement to raise an even bigger global shout to end slavery.  The movement is called “END IT.”  The aim is simple: end slavery.  The task is simple: add your name, support the work that is already going on, and raise up a loud shout against slavery.

The mandate to work towards ending slavery isn’t an option for Christians.  It’s a command.  I’d even go as far as say, the Church will be judged for the work it did not do to bring God’s justice and presence to the 27 Million enslaved.  Two verses out of many that I want to share:

“[The LORD] loves righteousness and justice; the earth if full of the steadfast love of the LORD.” – Psalm 33:5

“The Spirit of the LORD GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound …” – Isaiah 61:1
